Dubai aims for world’s most visited city status

Dubai aims for world’s most visited city status
For a city of extremes and superlatives, it is not surprising for Dubai to set its keen falcon eyes on becoming the most visited city in the world. Determined to overtake London by 2020, tourism chiefs and hoteliers in Dubai are confident that the emirate will achieve this goal, especially with the leadership’s drive for its “Tourism Vision for 2020.”
Helal Saeed Almarri, director-general of Dubai’s tourism department, said that the vision is embraced by government agencies and private sectors in Dubai giving the tourism industry a “clear and collective focus.” It is full speed ahead moving forward!
In 2013, Dubai has recorded 11 million visitors while London had 16.8 million. Almarri further noted that if Dubai maintains its 10.6% year-on-year increase, exceeding London’s numbers by 2020 will become an easy feat. This is no far-fetched dream as Dubai has already been remarkably growing and emerging as a strong player in world tourism.
Already seen as a “must visit” destination, Dubai has long been poised to receive new and returning tourists. Despite holding world records for the largest and tallest structures, the emirate does not rest on its laurels. Dubai continues to reinvent itself, creating unparalleled visitor experience year after year. Expect more attractions, more events, more hotels, more world-class infrastructure and services that will lead to a superb vacation experience for first timers and repeat guests.
A number of exciting projects are already in the drawing boards. Think about the Mohammad Bin Rashid City, a multi-billion tourism, retail, and arts center that will house the largest art gallery in the Middle East, the Dubai Adventure Studios, and the Mall of the World. The Dubai Eye, the world’s largest Ferris wheel, is also on the horizon, while the proposed Dubai Water Canal will add 6 kilometers to the waterfront where more beautiful marinas will become new areas for residence, business and recreation in Dubai.
