Dubai has once again focused its sharp falcon eyes on introducing another first in the world. Launched just recently, the Mall of the World is poised to become the world’s first and the largest temperature-controlled pedestrian city. Developed by Dubai Holding, this groundbreaking concept of a city within a city will be a 48-million-square-foot project along Sheik Zayed Road. It will feature a wide range of retail, leisure, cultural, wellness, hospitality, and recreational offerings. Specifically, the project will include the world’s largest mall, 100 hotels and serviced apartment buildings, the world’s largest indoor family theme park, a wellness district, a cultural district, the largest celebration center, extensive parking space, and a tram that runs within the retail network.
The world’s largest mall will occupy 8 million square feet, and will connect to the hotels and apartments that offer 20,000 hotel rooms. The temperature-controlled retail street network that spreads over 7 kilometers ensures that tourists do not have to worry about the scorching desert heat during the summer when walking out and about. The world’s largest indoor theme park inside the complex will surely draw in all kinds of tourists, especially families, any time of the year. It will be covered by a glass dome and will be open during the winter months. Another remarkable component of the Mall of the World is the wellness district which will cover an area of 3 million square feet. Dedicated to providing quality wellness and medical services, it will ensure that excellent healthcare, top-of-the-line surgical procedures and cosmetic treatments are easily accessible to the medical tourists. The cultural district will become a center for cultural festivities and events in the emirate and the country. It will feature theatres that will be at par with West End in London and Broadway in New York. The Celebration Walk will be similar to the Las Ramblas boulevard in Barcelona capable of accommodating 15,000 merrymakers. This new endeavor of Dubai is unlike anything ever done before. One of many projects aligned with the World Expo 2020, the Mall of the World is expected to attract 180 million visitors annually. No completion date or cost has been announced yet. With Dubai’s record of successfully creating the world’s tallest and largest, this incredible development will be a reality in no time.
